A devotional object before it is anything else. At its centre stands Lord Shrinathji, the form of Krishna worshipped at Nathdwara, surrounded by the sacred iconography of the shrine, the Girikandra of Govardhan, the lotus, the Shringar, the Sudarshan Chakra, the flowing Yamunaji, and the Nathdwara mandir itself. Struck in 999 fine silver, it holds the full devotional language of the temple in its classic, unadorned form.
Its distinction lies in the carving. The die is more than fifty years old, with a depth and detail of engraving no longer produced in the silver markets of Mumbai, Rajkot, Ahmedabad or Nathdwara. This is not a coin pressed by the thousand, it carries a quality of line that belongs to another era of craftsmanship, finished here in a brilliant mirror polish that lets the engraving speak for itself.
It belongs on the puja altar, in the home mandir, or in the hands of someone who will keep it well. It is given at Diwali and Govardhan Puja, marked into the occasions that matter, and passed down as the heirloom it is meant to become, a piece of Nathdwara, carried forward.
