How to care for Jewellery

Your Revajewell jewelry has been crafted with care and passion, just for you, to be cherished for years to come. With proper care, it will maintain its radiant beauty. We've delivered exquisite, delicate pieces to you, and now it's your turn to ensure they stay as stunning as the day you received them.

Here are some tips for taking care of your Revajewell jewelry:

  1. Keep your jewelry in its original packaging, pouch or zip lock to prevent scratches and this will also protect gemstones and their settings. It can be damaged by rough handling.
  2. When getting dressed, put on your jewelry last and take it off first when undressing. In other words we can say Last on, First off is a key to wear the jewelry.
  3. Take off your jewelry before washing your hands, swimming, or using lotions and creams.

How to Care for Silver, Gold, Gold-Plated and Enamel Jewelry

Gold-plated jewelry gives you the look of gold at a lower cost, but it needs extra care to stay beautiful over time. Unlike solid gold, which doesn't tarnish or get damaged by water, gold-plated jewelry has a thin layer of gold that can wear off. Consider this as a guide on how to care for your jewelry pieces to keep them looking their best.

All gold-plated and sterling silver jewelry will eventually tarnish. Over time, sterling silver will darken and tarnish naturally or you can also say it will naturally become oxidized. How quickly this happens depends on how often you wear it, how you store it, and how the metals react with your skin and sweat.

Keep your gold-plated sterling silver jewelry away from showers, pools, and ocean water. Keep it away from strong chemicals, perfumes, detergents, and chlorine. If you wear it every day, especially in the shower, it will show signs of wear faster. We don’t offer refunds for any wear and tear. Avoid lotions, perfumes, and soaps, and store your jewelry in a small ziplock bag, separate from other pieces. Wipe your jewelry occasionally with a soft cloth. Keep in mind that all fashion jewelry, including gold-tone and alloy pieces, may change color with use. These items are designed for short-term wear and may not last forever.

With proper care, like removing your jewelry before showering or sleeping, the gold plating can last up to a year. However, this depends on how often you wear it and how you store it, basically it depends on the points mentioned earlier.

1. Understanding Gold-Plated Jewelry

Gold-plated jewelry has a thin layer of gold over a base metal. This gold layer can wear off over time, especially if not cared for properly.

2. Enamel Jewelry

The enamel on our pieces is delicate and can break easily. Keep each piece separate as mentioned above in a pouch or zip lock to prevent scratches. Take care not to get your enamel jewelry wet. Store it in a cool, dark place to avoid damage. Keep it away from strong chemicals, perfumes, detergents, and chlorine.

3. Avoiding Moisture, Chemicals, and Sweat

To keep your jewelry in good condition, follow these tips:

  • Tarnishing: The gold layer can tarnish from exposure to air, moisture, chemicals, and sweat.
  • Wear and Tear: Regular use can cause the gold layer to fade and reveal the base metal underneath.
  • Keep It Dry: Always remove your jewelry before exercising or doing any activity that makes you sweat heavily. Store it in a dry, cool place, preferably in an airtight container. Avoid wearing your jewelry in hot or humid conditions to reduce sweat exposure. Sweat can cause faster tarnishing and a dull appearance. Regularly clean and store your jewelry properly to prevent damage. For gold-plated jewelry, sweat can erode the gold layer and lead to discoloration.
  • Remove Before Water Exposure: Water can speed up tarnishing and weaken the bond between the gold layer and the base metal. Always take off your jewelry before showering, swimming, or any water-related activities.
  • Keep Away from Chemicals: Avoid contact with perfumes, lotions, hairspray, make-up, nail polish remover, body oils, suntan lotion and deodorant and other personal care products, as they can cause discoloration.
  • Store Properly: When not in use, keep your jewelry in a dry place, ideally in a pouch or zip lock, to protect it from scratches and moisture.

By following these steps, you can help maintain the beauty and longevity of your jewelry including the gold-plated jewelry.

4. Limiting Daily Wear

To make your jewelry last longer:

  • Save for Special Occasions: Wear your gold-plated pieces for special events instead of every day. This helps prevent tarnishing and fading from daily wear.
  • Rotate Jewelry: If you wear jewelry often, switch between different pieces. This way, no single piece gets too much wear and tear.

5. Cleaning and Maintenance

To keep your gold-plated jewelry shiny and in good condition:

  • Gentle Cleaning: After wearing, use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe your jewelry. Natural skin oils can also cause most jewelry to lose its shine. This removes oils and residues that can cause tarnishing.
  • Professional Cleaning: Avoid using harsh cleaning agents like detergent or soap on the jewelry. For a thorough clean, you can have your jewelry professionally cleaned or you can also contact us for this service, which may include an additional fee and shipping charges. This will help maintain its appearance and extend its lifespan.

Regular Care - Practice makes perfect:

Check your jewelry often for dirt or oil buildup and clean it as needed to keep it in good condition.

Revajewell does not provide refunds or exchanges for wear and tear or discoloration of jewelry or gold-plated jewelry. By following these care tips, your jewelry will stay beautiful and shiny for a long time. Remember, taking good care of your jewelry is important to keep it looking elegant.
