The Story of the Enamel Shrinathji Coin

For generations, the devotees of Nathdwara have kept the form of Shrinathji close — on the home altar, in the mandir, and in objects handed from one generation to the next. This coin belongs to that tradition, struck in 999 fine silver and then, rarely for a devotional coin, brought to life by hand in enamel.

The Sacred Iconography

At its centre stands Shrinathji, the child-form of Krishna worshipped at Nathdwara, lifting the Girikandra of Govardhan — the mountain he raised to shelter his devotees. Around him the shrine is rendered in full: the lotus of purity, the Sudarshan Chakra, the flowing Yamunaji, the Shringar, and the temple itself — each element drawn from living worship.

The Art of Hand-Enamel

What sets this coin apart is the enamel. Colour is laid by hand over an engraved carving more than fifty years old — a depth of line no longer produced in the silver markets of Mumbai, Rajkot, Ahmedabad, or Nathdwara. It is a step almost never taken on a devotional coin, and the result sits closer to a miniature painting in silver than to a struck coin.
